Thumbs Down "Bates Motel" TV series, no please no
[Image: auce8x.jpg]

At least I got a laugh out of Yahoo News being forced to print an "update" at the end admitting they'd got it wrong & there had already been a prequal, the brilliant "Psycho IV" (which isn't a horror film at all, more a tense drama showing how Norman Bates was very much the victim of his circumstances).

But why is there this nonstop conveyor belt of remaking classic characters or classic films, most of them badly? Are Hollywood that short of new ideas for new stories? Or is it simple laziness, "hey let's trade in on an old successful brand name so people are sure to go & see it".

(FFS, now they've remade "The Sweeney" in a 21st Century setting. What next, Miss Marple with a iPhone?)

There are millions of books and book series that have never made it to film or TV. Why not pick something new for a change? What about Agaton Sax for instance?

I was a little put out when they made a film version of the Millennium Trilogy in English. There was no need - the Swedish versions were great.
