ghosts, mediums, demons, etc. Seeing as it is around Halloween time or whatever, I thought that this thread might be an interesting discussion (even though there is like no one on any more). I want to know what is your opinion on this topic? real? fake? What do you think?

I'm a definite believer in the paranormal. Not any of that "orbs" crap you see on TV on places like "Most Haunted", but with only 10% of matter discovered it stands to reason there could be phenomena currently outside our current science to explain. When I was younger I must have bought every true ghost stories book around!

The problem is the field has become so much the preserve of religious nutters, charletans and conjourers that any real phenomena recorded will never be taken seriously. Ghost photographs for instance are no longer of any interest in the age of digital cameras making it too easy to fake and impossible to prove a picture is genuine.

The other problem is so many ghost stories down the years have become embellished or rewritten to make for better reading that what is true and what is made up blur. Peter Underwood of the Ghost Club is easily the worst for this, going on and on about Borley Rectory long after it had become an embarrassment to serious paranormal researchers.

In years to come, our view of the paranormal ought to become like that towards wildlife. In the 19th Century, explorers still told wild tales of fantastical scary creatures in jungles and misty mountains in order. By the 20th, people realised the true stories were far more fascinating and needed no embellishment. Maybe one day people will react in a similar way, instead of the "Scooby Doo" mentality we still have towards what lies beyond.

In a previous workplace, some of them went to a Spiritualist church (they are supposed to receive messages from "the other side") for a laugh, and the best bit of the night was one guy saying he'd a message for Mary from Jimmy. When asked what it was, the guy looked embarrassed and asked if he could tell Mary in private. When told he had to say it out loud so Mary could remain anonymous amongst the congregation if desired, he said the message he'd been given was, "I thought you told me Mary you didn't believe in any of this rubbish!"

I believe too. There are many things that we have yet to learn, I think that we will learn a small amount of it and the rest will never be discovered (well at least by any live human). I also think a small percentage that we will learn is about aliens, I believe that a small amount of people already know about them but the aliens will be released to the public.

I'm really into all the mysterious stuff and love Unsolved mysteries. Its one of my favourite shows. It fufilles (sp?) my creepyside. Smile

It stands to reason that there's going to be aliens on other worlds from the sheer size of the universe. There's supposedly at least 54 that we currently know of.

Knowing mankind, the first thing we'd do once we arrived there is open up a McDonalds.

HAHA lol. Mcdonalds is now available on Mars! It's out of this world! With the all new Martians meal with 5x mince beef, 6x cheese slices, fries in the middle, 5x pieces of fatty bacon (98.9% fat), topped with salt and covered in BBQ sauce.

yep saving my money to buy Mcdonalds! Smile
Back on topic with ghosts, gotta love this famous old ghost photo.

The story is quite a well known one. The Reverend K F Lord at Newby Church in North Yorkshire was taking a photo of the altar to use for postcards to sell for church funds, but when it was developed there was a tall hooded monk figure on it, and see through at that!

Kodak examined the negative and said it had not been tampered with, and the image was too good to be some sort of camera error.

Almost as big a mystery as the photo was that the church was a fairly new one, built in the 19th Century, and there was no history of any monks using that land at some past time in history to explain why there would be a ghost monk appearing. Nor was there any history of ghosts in the church.

As someone that did history, what I've wondered is whether the monk was in fact a lepar, which was a problem in England until the industrial age, and indeed the last lepar colony only closed in 1969! That would explain them being hooded, as in the pre-industrialised world lepars were forced to cover up as a preventative measure.
didn't someone post a pic on here a while back that had a blue figure in the background...
