Hi all. I got Sims 3 recently, and the game has been working fine for a few days, and now, its crazy laggy and unplayable. Its just no fun with how much lag there is. the strangest thing is, im playing on my Alienware M17x R3 with 8gb ram and an I7 processor PLUS im playing off a Crucial M4 Sata 3 solid state drive, so why would my game be so laggy?

Here are the full specs on my system

It's really annoying! Thanks everyone!!!

This should really be in Technical Talk, but never mind - I'd rather there was only the one Sims 3 section anyway!

So you tried asking this in Yahoo, got no response, and came to us as a last resort?

How do I know?

"VE MAKE IT OUR BUSINESS TO KNOW!"

(I loved the response you got from the person advising you to go to Snooty Sims, they're as much help to anyone not in their teen gang as broken glass in your dinner!)

First up, that isn't a games computer you have. That is God reincarnated in Silicon form. There should be no lag whatsoever. At least, with any normal game. However, you have Sims 3, which until last year did not even recognise there was such a concept as computers with over 2 GB's of RAM!

The usual culprit is too much custom content. Doesn't matter how big or powerful your computer is, there appears to be a tolerance limit as to how much the game can take.

Custom content hairs are often major culprits due to the high poly count bringing the game to its knees because the coding was never up to much. Another is having too many worlds in your game. Yeah, yeah, it shouldn't be a resource hog if you aren't using them, but like I said this isn't a normal game you are dealing with.
sorry, i didnt even see the technical talk forum lol. but anyways, i have absolutely NO custom content. its just the original stuff...
I take it you have patched right up to date? There's some issues with game play caused by the last patch. If you have the likes of Late Night as well there's problems caused by the amount of traffic on the road (especially taxis) in game.

You may wish to consider getting Twallan's Master Controller mod, which amongst others user cleans up events off screen that can make your game lag (such as electronic equipment like TVs and stereos being left on in lots overnight when there's no one watching them - public lots are the pits for this). Even if they're happening off-screen, it will deal with them.

It will also get rid of "homeless Sims" ie. the loads of paparazzi popping up since Late Night, as well as giving you an option to scrub them in game using annihilate.

Many people find Twallan's mods highly effective in running their game more smoothly, you may wish to give these a try. As they are .packages as opposed to Sims3Packs, they are easy to install (drop into your Mods\packages folder, that's it!) and remove as required.
i have no expansions either. just the original sims 3 game. I am also up to date on patches. ive tried to do the master controller before, but i couldnt get it to work. i made a "mods" folder in the ea section of my documents and a "packages" folder in that and extracted the package from the link you gave me into it and nothing pops up when i click on stuff in the game to give me master controller options. can you give me any advice or more specific direction? thank you!

Hi I'm Cororon. Smile

Did you remember to install the resource.cfg file in the mods folder?

When you install mods lile Master Controller you need to be sure that you have the right version for your game. It depends on which expansions you have if any. Maybe you should try Twallan's Overwatch mod too.
okay thanks, i got it working. it said that 51 cars were removed and it's still lagging a lot. are there any other "anti-lag" mods i can change through master controller or install another package to do?

Yes there's the ErrorTrap mod also by Twallan. It can correct script and object errors.

The culprit is often something that the game tries to load over and over again but never succeeds, like when I installed CC meant for Sims 2 by mistake. Blush But it can be some other type of file or files as well.

If you have Master Controller you can also try to reset the town. It helps if an unknown sim or object is stuck.
So far i have installed Errortrap, Overwatch, Mastercontroller and Decensor (which doesnt seem to work. theres still mosaics when in the shower, but its not important). I also reinstalled the game off my SSD back to my secondary HHD, because the lag was there either way before. I played for a couple hours yesterday with no problems, but it always worked for a while before it started lagging. Thank you so much everyone for your help. hopefully ill have no more problems. the other mod i was wondering about was "awesome mod"; does this work with the Twallan mods with patch 1.29.55? if so, does anyone have a link? thanks!

Cororon

I don't think Twallan's mods work with Awesome Mod. Most people I know use Twallan's Story Progression instead, because Awesome Mod can screw up your game and you can't simply uninstall it.
