Full Version: Sims keeps crashing...

So um, I got the Sims 3 a week ago and it crashes quite a lot. At first it didn't crash and I know it was because I had little things. I am not disabling custom content. Otherwise my Sims will fight more often. Because I have like eight sims lol it'll be true chaos. Okay, so before it would crash every time I save. Like 3/4 times. I'm not progressing very fast in the game. And now it's sooooooooo much worse. It just crashes randomly while I'm playing the game. And it sucks. Like the computer just shuts down and I loose everything I did up to that. So I have to do it over again. My Dad checked what was wrong with my computer and everything was okay? We even tried defragmentating the disk and lowering the graphics to the minimum. Yet it STILL crashes. Like I'm fed up and I don't know what is wrong with my game. My Dad suggested it could probably be bugs. But it might be something with the files as I researched it. If you know how to fix this, Please give me a SIMPLE and easy to understand explanation on what to do. Btw, I have Windows 7, just to be specific and make the explanations easier ^^
I'll appreciate it soooo much if you were to help me fix this. [Image: BeatingHeart.gif]
Your sims will "fight more often" if you disable custom content? Gosh!

You are out of luck I'm afraid, as I don't know a whole lot of about Windows 7 (I have a Mac). Maybe someone who knows about Windows, or just knows more full stop, will log in and answer. In the meantime I suggest that you could do an experiment - temporarily remove all of your CC, then see if your game will run. If it will then you can blame your CC and try to work out which bit is faulty.

Presumably you are patched up to date and your computer has sufficient specs to run the game?

Thank you Smile

Yeah, I've made a new game and it does somewhat run well without custom content. But I cannot feed their needs properly without it Sad The houses come without beds so I had them sleep in their neighbours houses, but even that would make it crash when I use their beds. One question, if I disable CC entirely, will my neighbours have CC?
Yes, I am up to date, I have downloaded the latest updates and I got everything to run the game, and no spyware or bugs, stuff like that.
Hi again, I must admit you've lost me now. I'd like to help but I think we'll have to start at the start!

You mention that you got Sims 3 only a week ago - so is it just the base game that you have installed (no expansion or stuff packs)? You say you have downloaded the latest updates - presumably through the launcher - so you should be patched to 1.42.

You mention that you have custom content - what sort of cc do you have and are you sure that it's compatible with the current patch level?
To be honest the part where you lose me is when you say that without cc your sims don't have beds! Dizzy-1 I don't have any cc installed but my sims can certainly sleep!

Take out all your CC. Now if you start a new game, in Sunset Valley let's say, and choose a pre-made household with sims (and beds!) already in place, can you play for half an hour and then save it? If not, then what is the sort of crash you are getting - are there any error messages, does it close the game totally, does it just freeze up etc.
Also have a look at this link:

https://help.ea.com/article/dep-settings...-windows-7

I remembered reading how on a PC you have do something with DEP settings or your game might not run. I don't have a clue about such settings but the instructions in the link seem clear and maybe your Dad will know about it. The bits for Windows 7 are in the lower half of the page.
Hello Serephina90210. Do you have Twallan's Overwatch mode installed?

If not, please try putting that in your game.

Many of us find it is impossible to run the Sims 3 on the PC without it as EA haven't a clue how to code their own product properly.

I'm not sure if you solved the problem yet but here's what I think.
I have had the same problem quite a bit. EA did a terrible job of programing this game and there are many things that cause problems. Most trouble makers are things that are not any fault of your own but of the incompetence of the EA programmers. There are a couple of things that are indeed caused by glitching or tricking the software into doing something it is not programmed to do. Teen mothers, for example, is something that can make a fairly well working game crash within 30 seconds of loading the town (which can take up to an hour when this happens). Below is a list of everything that I know of that can cause the sims 3 to crash or can otherwise affect the performance of the game. In bold are the ones that produce the most drastic outcomes. To lighten the mood I have included this Fryingpan The longer you stare at it the funnier it gets Smile
Teen Moms
Changing Species of a Sim
Changing Age of a Sim
Otherwise adjusting a sim using testingcheatsenabled true
A Household Without a Young Adult/Adult/Elder
*Using testingcheatsenabled true to get rid of moodlets and drag around the need bars
Using tce true to edit relationships
**Using the buydebugcheat
Having a lot of sims (I strongly recommend having no more than 5 sims/pets in a household)
Pausing and playing repeatedly (kind of like flicking the lights on and off)
***DOWNLOADING ITEMS FROM THE EXCHANGE
Like I said, these are just the ones that I know of. There are probably too many minor things to count. One thing that is not in the list is having many expansion packs. I left this out because there are too many variables affecting how badly (or if at all) it affects your game. But I do suggest finding out just how much your computer can handle. You should look at the internal storage, RAM, the BIOS, the video card, and your operating system. In my experience, the sims 3 does not work at all on windows XP, you can only play maybe five or ten minutes before it crashes on windows vista, it seems to work best on windows 7, and crashing every once in a while on windows 8. If I left out your operating system I apologize, I just don't want to give out information unless I have had a fair amount of experience with.
*adjusting the needs of your sims and getting rid of moodlets doesn't appear to affect your game at first. You need to be using it constantly for about an hour before it can actually crash the game.
**I am not as sure about buydebug as I am with the other things, but to me it seems like something EA would "forget" to account for and mess up the game
*** I think that the exchange is one of the biggest things that will take the performance of your game and tear it to shreds. There are just so many items on the exchange that can cause any number of glitches and bugs. There are a few that will turn your babies and some of your toddlers into what looks like giant, flesh colored poles. Many can be worn by a different age group that they are meant for and can your tots look like they're possessed (the single scariest thing I have ever seen). A large number give men breasts (these are actually hilarious, but regardless, will still slow down your game). So many items downloaded from the exchange can totally mess up the sims 3. In my opinion, it is just not worth it. I would much rather have less clothes and hairstyles then not be able to play.
