So the CAS demo announced just a day or two ago was delivered to a lucky few thousand simmers yesterday. The general reaction to the tools themselves appears to be very positive. It certainly seems very quick to make sims - some people were churning out examples at an incredible rate almost immediately after getting their hands on the demo.
I think they are wise to release a CAS demo after all the dissatisfaction being expressed in the last few weeks (toddlers, pools, story progression, load screens etc). CAS is the one thing they've really shown off so presumably is the one thing that it truly finished and ready. Also, how very useful for them to get a huge number of free testers!
I was one of those was selected to receive the demo, which is highly unfortunate given that (1) I don't intend to buy the game, (2) I don't use Origin so I cannot access the demo and, most importantly, (3) it wouldn't work on my Mac anyway.
If it had been web browser-based I'd have probably been curious enough to have a go at making a few sims, but there's no way I'm going to re-Bootcamp my Mac and install nasty Origin just to access a demo for a game I don't intend to purchase.
I have contacted some people to see if it is possible to transfer my early demo chance to a friend, in which case I would love to be able to give Ollie the demo, assuming he doesn't have it (if he did then I'd give it to LGR so he could review it). However there seems no way to execute such a transfer. Sorry, Ollie, you may have to wait for the more general release of the demo later this summer. I hope they don't keep you waiting too long.
