i dont think social should be a meter thing
or at least it shouldnt matter as much
sometimes i dont talk to my family much during the day and that doesnt put me in a bad mood
i get the point that sims need to communicate, but that shouldnt decide what their mood is
and i dont think you should have to have friends to get promoted (i know thats already been said)
About the not needing friends to get promoted, I agree with that in particular. I think some jobs should and indeed will require popularity to become promoted, however, this should not be neccessary for all jobs. I mean, what about the poor Shy Sims? They'd have major trouble getting promoted if all the jobs require lots of friends, even if they are very talented at what they do. It doesn't make sense. :-\
yeah! cause scientists and stuff dont have alot of friends (typically not always)
i could understand it in law and culinary though it would make sense.
I agree.

The friends for promotions doesn't sound like it is going away however. I hope that friendships are easier to make and keep up. Those always are a problem for me. I prefer my sims to stay at home because you have to load everything.

Maybe, with The Sims 3, since you won't have to load every time you move, I will move my sims more. Maybe I will also have my sims more social?

It sounds, however, that socialism is going to play a bigger part in The Sims 3 than ever before.
True social situations wont be as difficult anymore and probably wont be hard to maintain..so it wont be so bad hopefully.

Even though it might seem like that, science is an extremely competitive field. Who you know could make the difference in whether you get funding or not.

I think the friendship system in TS2 is TOTALLY unrealistic. First of all, I have many acquaintances that I would maybe know at a level of 25 in the sims. If I was a sim in like two seconds I wouldn't know them at all. I think that some relationships just shouldn't deteriorate. There should only be a drop in the friendship if you ditch your friend, forget to go to her party, have an affair with husband etc.
^ I agree. Those stupid messages drive me crazy, like 'I thought you had been abducted by aliens...' It's so easy for sims to stop being friends. I also agree about the friends for promotions thing. I hate having to make my sims have loads of friends for promotions.
aquaintances would be cool some sims should just remain that way but still count for who your sim knows maybe
there's another thing i thought of...
if people are married any they're really good friends with someone, i dont want the options like kiss or flirt and stuff like that to come up
because some people actually do want to be JUST friends
Tongue well good because that wont happen interactions will be based on mood..and what your sim chooses they choose whether they want to pursue a friendship or more..or whatever.
not clear on how it works though.
