I just started checking out the new game and have a few points I wanted some insight on.

With fewer needs and a better self aware AI it appears they are taking some of the micromanagement out of the game and putting in more quest type goals. Like how often my sim goes to the bathroom is now much less important than how he affects the neighborhood. I have played so much Sims 2 that I'm ready for a new gameplay style so I might like it. I'm just wondering if they will still have a skill tree (logic, body etc) that improves your sim as you go or has all the tedious stuff been removed. I haven't really seen anything on that yet.

If the clock is now global what happens to my other sims if I follow one into town and leave the others at home. Can I return and find out the house has been burnt down or the whole family is now mad at each other or my wife seduced our neighbor while I was gone. Now that would be realistic drama.

I understand the game now wants you to explore and get out of your house but what if my sim wants to be a homebody will it be to simple to enjoy playing that way now.

How much will the personality traits effect a sim will it be drastic or subtle?

Are groceries still completely generic or does my sim now have to buy specific ingredients for his favorite dish.

Has anyone seen the new UI and what it looks like now. None of the screenshots I have seen have it on there.

Will it be a year and a half and 100 bucks after the base game is released that it really becomes a great game? I don't see how that format works again with our current economy. I really enjoy Sims 2 but I also feel like I paid too much for it.

Please and thank you, sorry I have no cool sig pic.
Hey, welcome!

I too have been wanting a newer game play system. It might be a nice change.

The way I take the whole clock thing is that anything can happen at any time.

I think you can still be a homebody.

Traits will depend on what their surroundings are I think.

Groceries still depend.

I want to see the new UI as well. There was an art pic, but it didn't look very good.

I am hoping that it doesn't take too long for it to lose the glitches.

Im not to sure about the body, logic skill points either. I do remember reading that a plump sim can jog or exercise and gradual lose weight and visa versa. So i'm not to sure...it wouldnt work right?....if they didnt have a bar letting u know how far along ur sim are in gaining skills...or gaining and losing weight. Im assuming that it will be behind the scenes like the needs are..and you will just see where they are at, by watching them.

Well if you decide to follow another sim into town and leave the others at home...they will all just go about their business lol. I suppose it will all depend on their personality and traits.

If you choose to have a sim that dislike the outside...then yeah you will have a homebody. You can always control that sim and make em go out, but it wont be happy lol. So more in likely if you do leave that sim at home and explore..it will more in likely be at home where you last seen it?

I'm guessing drastic. Atleast i hope so. From the info ive read its a great possiblitly. Here are a few  I thought up in my head...I'm not sure if this is contradicting, but here goes...if you make a sim that is a klepto, with mean sprit/evil as a few of his traits. He/she wouldnt think twice about stealing. and if you make a sim that is a kepto, with good as a trait...that sim will more in likely pause to think....should I or should I not. And about the wifey thing i thought of this.....if you make a wife sim that is a flirt loves the outdoors...she will more inlikely get into mischief when the hubby is away...and a sim that is family oreinted, good etc will be too emotional attach to her family consider it.

I'm not sure about groceries. That ideal would be nice.

Yeah dunno....

*shrug* I hope not.
I agree, it does seem more quest like but I trust EAaxis enough to believe they won't take out the oldschool way of playing.

I'm pretty sure they will be keeping skills like the ones you've listed. Now body, that may still be a skill, or if your sim has a more muscular frame, he or she may not necessarily need any body skills, if so, he or she may gain them easier.

Though we are facing a new way of playing, our sims will still have to earn job promotions, and they will still gain new insight on things which will help boost their lives, I doubt skills or the like will be removed, otherwise, how are our sims going to make it in this new lifestyle?

I believe they said we will have slots. In which you can save your game, or your family. I'm sure we have the ability to pause, or save the game as is since most players are most unsure of this same issue.

In a interview, it was said that you can plan your sims day, and sims will be a lot smarter this time if free will is on. So, if you don't want little timmy to stay up past his bed time and get into things, you can set up a plan for him and while your adult sim hits the town, you can be reassured that he is doing what you tell him. Of course you can always check back on him.

They've also said this about work. You cannot see your sim at work, but you can plan ahead what he will be doing. Whether its sucking up to the boss, slacking off, or shacking up with a coworker, I'm sure the same applies for sims at home!

That's ok! By the use of traits, deciding on what you you choose you can have exactly that. "dislikes outdoors" is one of the recent traits they've posted. So, his/her moodlet should boost when they are doing activities indoors. With all the new content, I'm pretty positive your sim will enjoy being a homebody if you keep their interests up and won't complain because they don't like being outside.

If you get too bored, take them for a drive and go to different indoor places, he may moan for a quick second during commute but once inside, that moodlet should disappear rather quickly from my understanding.

I think we will have to see about the trait issue. I can't see our sims acting bi polar lol, which is the reason why traits that are too opposite will be greyed out. I'm sure they can be either really drastic, or really sutble depending on your choice of traits.

I think you can have both options when it comes to making or ordering meals. If you have a Sim that enjoys cooking, shopping for ingredients will boost their moodlet. Or, if you use the "hand of God" option, calling, receiving and draging the groceries in the fridge yourself should do the trick.

If he's a pizza lover, and has a gormet cook trait, he'll enjoy buying the ingredients, making, and eating it. But also, if he's had a long day at work, simply ordering him pizza delivery, or popping in a frozen premade one, will still very much so be enjoyed .

Not sure about how long it will be until we "enjoy" the game. I think because its such a new way of playing the sims, that it will be enjoyed with or without EPs. How long was it enjoyed before the first EP of ts2 was created? Even so, I think everytime an EP is created, that brings on added excitement for the game, like a renewed love and appreciation for it because it expands and adds more iterest.

Because ts3 is seamless, I don't think people will get bored of it as quickly as they did the sims 2 because there is more to do. If you get tired of the town, you can spend time rematching and decorating a home, play random townies by a click of ygr mouse, rebuild houses, make movies, and share your stories.

If your talking about America, I believe our economy will be changing for the better, really soon. I doubt its going to be more than $60, and if you can't afford to pay bills, eat, etc, I don't necessarily think you should waste your time, or money playing a game like the sims is a leasure.

EPs cost money and some simmers can't afford to keep up. So buying the base game may be their only option until birthdays or Christmas.
The one thing I love about Sims is that we are not forced to do quests that need to be fulfilled (except for wants).  I don't want a cat and mouse chase through my game.  I just want it to stay the way it has been.

Though I did hear on the more difficult level you have to save the town or something like that.
