I have Sims 2 Pets.  It's been working fine and THEN duh I downloaded Driver Detective and lo and behold my game now it sometimes crashes at the neighborhood screen telling me I have D3D errors.  Also, when I am in neighbourhood screen, the houses flicker in and out of existence and if I enter a house, the same thing happens.  Game is slow, choppy and everything disappears except the floors.  Doh.  What do I need to do?  Any ideas??? {cursing}
Set all the graphic options to low and then try.

Also, make sure you have the patch for the game and latest computer drivers.

Okay, This Problem Happens If Your Virtual Memory is Low,Broken Graphic Driver, Or The Graphic Driver itself

So Lets Update The Card Smile

Nvidia Base Graphic Cards: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

Ati Base Graphic Cards: http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.HTML

other: Google  (Your Graphic Drivers Brand) Drivers.

Now, if that doesn't work. Reinstall Sims2. and Install Patches for the game.

if that doesn't work. Try uninstalling programs witch you don't use at ALL.

that doesn't help use Bats Answer: set graphics to low in game. (That might or will help)

If that doesn't help Ditch Xp and install windows vista, or Buy new Video card.

If your ram is 512mb I suggest upgrade to 1gb or more.

Cheers Smile
ALSO: you might have to reinstall DirectX 9.0c. This is located on the Sims 2 CD, or you can download it from the following website:

www.microsoft.com/directx

To install it from the CD, make sure the CD is in the drive, then follow these steps:
- Open My Computer
- Right click on the Sims 2 icon (of the CD drive) and choose Open
- Open the DirectX folder
- Double click the DXSetup icon to run the DirectX installation.
- Follow the instructions on your screen. You might need to reboot after the installation has finished.
I would recommend you just set the settings to low first. This will give you some time to play. However, you will need to remember to update the drivers anyways.

Like i said his graphic card probs have faulty drivers or high sims2 settings
And like the sticky says, you need to update drivers.
you are all wonderful...i did everything you suggested and all seems ok right now .... except !!! when i save and finish playing and go back to the neighborhood screen, it's ok, but when i come back next day or whenever to play again the screen is frozen and won't even ctr-alt-del out!  i have to turn the computer off and then on again.  i can live with that, but today i'm going to try running the game in a window to see if that helps. 8)
Hmm...run in compatibility mode maybe?

And glad it works for the most part.
