How fast does time go in Life Stories (they'll be elders in 26 days sniff sniff). I've now finished Riley's story and I'm in free mode. I thought it might slow down when I finished the story as I took a look at free play one day and it went slower.

It looks like it counts 1 sec = 1 minute of sim life. Does that sound right? So they could be elders if I play everyday in a few days?? It seems really fast to me, and I'm on the normal speed 1. The baby is a toddler in a few hours.  {unsure}

Also, is there anyway to stop high speed when someone goes to bed because I now have to take care of Mickey & Riley and if he's or she's off doing something else while one if sleeping, it moves too fast. Sometimes it doesn't go high speed though, so I'm not sure about the timing of this game. Big Grin

Thanks. Love The Sims ...  {clap}
The 1 sec to 1 min is correct for all sim games.  Yes it is fast.  I don't think the life spans are shorter han the avrage game though.  However, during the story mode, the aging prosses is frozen. There is a cheat to stop aging while in free mode so just ask if you want it.

The way to stop the high-speed sleeping thing is to press the normal speed button just like normal while their sleeping.

Hope I helped.
Yes you helped thank you. It is fast. You can't take your eyes off it for long.  Big Grin

What happens when they are elders? Do they die and give the house to their kids or something?

I don't know how to use cheats, but if there was one to slow it down..... or maybe I'll get the husband (since he doesn't get paid very well) to quit his job to look after the house and child. I can't imagine juggling two toddlers in this game.  Tongue

And sorry for another question (I'm so new to the Sims), if I start another family in the free play play (so not Riley's story) and save it, will it delete off the Riley's Story family? I think I read you can only have one game slot, but I don't really understand what that refers to.
When the elders die, anyone in the house becomes the "owner".  If they live alone, then their house gets put up for sale.

I don't know if you can slow down the game, but if you push (and the same time) Shift, Ctrl, and C, you bring up the cheat box.  If you tipe help, then you will get a list of cheats, one which will stop aging for the entire household.  Since you are just starting out, two todlers could be a bit much, but then again, I am not you so my opinion.  Once you get more experenced, you will want to try the toddlers.  (Sadly, you cannot go past 4 people living in one house in LS so youcannot have the thril of having 7 todlers with one adult... Sad Sad  Big Grin)

For my story, Riley got a job in crime and is upsest with her work.  Micky, (the husband) quit his job and in his love for Riley, got a job in crime also.  They had 2 kids and (of course) they ended up getting a job in crime when they were teens.  However, Micky was not satisfied with Riley so he has girlfriends and childeren with a few neighbors.  Riley still doesn't know.    Sorry, just saying.

PS:  Try to avoid the evil nanny! (But you can still use her if you need too)

In any sims game, you can hold mutipul (sp) families in all neighborhoods.  After you complete Riley's or the other guy's (whose name I cannot remember) story, you can go to the neighborhood view and add your own families to the story's neighborhoods without deleting the origonal families.  The free play is the same.  Add as many families/lots as you wish.  None will be deleted unless you delete them (or your laptop messes up Sad )

I don't know what the "one game slot" could be, but my guess is that it means that you cannot have the same game (as in from the same CD) on two computers at the same time, but that is a guess.

Any more questions, just ask.
Wow, your Riley family is different to mine.  Big Grin

Thank you for all the very helpful information. This is one big game!

With my Family, Riley is getting a really good pay at a normal job, and so is Mikey. They have one son who's at school now. (yes, I figured 2 kids was too hard for me first up). The nanny only comes for about one hour where Mickey & Riley both work and the son comes home from school now. Should I get rid of her?

I did the cheat you said, and I stopped aging.  {clap} Thanks. The son is 8 years old.

Vincent is the other story, but I like playing my own way so haven't bothered going into the story mode on his yet.

So you can go into different households. I've tried it, but not saved in case I lost my Riley's Family and I didn't want to do that.

So when you go play other houses, does your last played family (so the Riley's story family for me), go on hold or do they run around working and looking after themselves? Does the aging cheat work for all house lots, or just the family you're playing when you put the cheat in.

Sorry for so many questions. I'm new to the game, and I'm loving it to bits, but it is one very big game to digest. The book that come with the game doesn't give you much information at all! But I did find some other useful links I'm reading up on as well. Unfortunately there's not as much out there for Life Stories, and because I've never played TS1 or 2 I don't know the difference in information.
That is one of the upsides of the sims.  Every person's story is different.

I know!  And LF is not even 1/2 the Sims 2 or Sims 1!

You can save multiple families in each neighborhood.  When you play one, the rest seem to be frozen in time and the families that you are not playing will not age until you play them.  However, you will see the families you are not played running around the town and the relationships they make WILL affect your person.

Ex: You make person A (A) and person B (B) in seperate families, move them in two seperate houses and save.

You play A and save and quit.  You start playing B and go to the store.  You see person A at the store and make friends with him.  You send A home and save and quit.  You go back to A.  A will not have moved or aged but would still be friends with B.

I don't think the aging cheat works in the whole neighborhood but just the family you are playing.  So if you change families, you will have to type in the code again.

PS:  The nanny is ok for kids.  Just firer her when you kid becomes a teen.  The problem with the nanny is that she doesn't really take care of the kids.  Insted, she sits and watches TV or feeds todlers repededly then puts them to bed.  She never changes their smelly diapers or washes them.  So your choice.

PSS:  You are right, LS does not have as much help as the Sims 2, but the Sims 2 is a bigger game.  Good Luck! Big Grin
Thanks again Tom. I'll try playing a different family next. Mickey wants to woohoo with 3 different girls now, and fall in love with different girls all the time, and Riley & Nick (the son) have already been furious with him once when he flirted with Crystal, so I don't see them lasting.  {blush}

I noticed my nanny played the guitar most of the time. I fired her anyway, but then I got a message Nick shouldn't be on his own, so I hired another one.

I don't think I could keep up with TS1 or 2, especially if you go and have 7 toddlers.  Big Grin

I should be ok doing the cheats now too. I couldn't get them both to go into the double bed, so I read about a glitch that makes something seem like it's being used, which seemed to be the case because in buy mode it wouldn't let me move it, so I found a cheat to put in. MoveObjects on - and then you can move it and sell it, buy another, then put MoveObjects off. So I did that cheat to fix the bed problem last night.

If one of the family members goes to the store, do the rest of the family have to come (that's what I did to get Mickey new clothes), or can they stay at home and do their own thing without missing work, starving etc? Thanks again.
In Sims 1, 2, and LS, you may send just one person to a community lot, however, they must be an adult or teenager to go alone.  If a person go alone, the family would be saved as if you swiched families.  (Your people will freeze while you are gone)
Thanks again.  Big Grin

I've been playing a different family and sent them out to dinner, but for some reason even though they ordered (all sitting at different tables  Sad ) they didn't get served any food and got too starving and had to go home.

But I started playing the single girl that Mickey was going to marry in the story. Can't spell her name & the game is on my netbook (now off). Mickey keeps ringing and they are in love, but he's a dog in Riley's life, so he'd be a dog in her life too, wouldn't he? Because whatever they are in the game, they are in any family you play? His aspirations are the same regardless of who he ends up with? It's just she wants to be Mayor and she has to keep up good appearances, and flirting with married men isn't too good.  Wink

And can the burgular steal the hot tub? He ran through the house and took a painting, but the next day in the light I noticed the hot tub gone too.  {cursing}
IDK what to do about that.

Sorry, but I don't understand your next few questions. Sad

Yes, the burgular can steel your hot tub and/or any other large objects.  If you don't like it, invest in a burgular alarm in the electronics catorgory.
