I just installed the sims complete collection, after having just the original sims (no expansions with it) installed. Now almost every time I socialize with someone, even if it's just talking I get a minus sign! What gives?!  {cursing} I've already ruined two friendships this way and don't want to do more social damage

Does anyone know why this is happening? I almost always used to get plus sigs when socializing. Now it seems I can only get them with stray cats and dogs I socialize with. I thought maybe charisma. One person in my house has a next to maximum charisma, that doesn't seem to be it. Mood? Nope, two people who lives together talked during dinner and now they are getting X's through thier conversation topics and a heap of minus signs.
If I remember right, TS1 was heavily into their interests, so if your sims have colliding interests, of course they are going to be minuses.

Try creating another family and doing just talk, entertain, whatever the safe ones are and see if you still have the problem.

What do you mean by heavily into their interests? That they had mostly the same interests in the first one? So, that's why I didn't get many minus signs?

No, because I already have well established family of 3. I don't want to start from scratch. I tried talk, the "safe" one you mention and it seems no matter what I talk about cats, gossip, dogs or interests I get a minus sign with anything but animals.

Is there any way I can see what their interests are, so they don't collide? Now, that it's made it really hard to socialize. Maybe there's a hack that can help me.
Are your sims in good moods?
What I mean is that every time they talk, they ALWAYS talk about their interests. So if they have contradicting interests, they almost never get along. That's why I said heavily, unlike TS2, there's almost no way to avoid it.

Anyways, if you look under each sim, there should be an interest section, where there are bars associating with how much they are into their interests.
