I'm posting this on Yahoo Answers but figured I'd stick it here to on the offchance any of you are tech geniuses on the sly.

-------

I just bought a new laptop. I went through the motions of setting it up and eventually it brought me to my new desktop. Everything was fine. Then it asked me to restart so I could complete some updates. I'd not even done anything thus far on the laptop. I restarted, then when I entered my password on the logon screen, it just would not accept it. You have to put the password in twice, so chances of me making an error both times are not great. I know exactly what my password was because I wrote it down, and I'd literally made it about 10 mins ago anyway. I was stumped. I hadn't had a chance to make any extra accounts or anything, so I had no way of getting into my brand new PC.

I checked on the Windows website & it advised to reinstall Windows 7 using my reinstallation DVD that came with the new laptop. So I did. However, when I start the computer, I get two Windows 7 options now. The first is the brand new Windows I just reinstalled. The second is the old one. I assumed the new one would write over the old one so I could start a fresh, but apparently not. The new Windows 7 seems to have installed itself on my recovery drive. It says 'RECOVERY (CSmile' and '1.24GB left of 14.6GB'. The bar is bright red. So the whole operating system is running off a dire 1.24GB. However, next to it, there is another drive (D drive) that says 'OS' (I'm no tech genius as you can tell but I guess that means 'operating system') that says '265GB free of 283GB'. This is my proper operating system I assume, it is the one where original account on the older Windows 7 is located.

I don't understand what's happened, I'm so lost. I can't get the original Windows 7 to log me in so I havn't got a chance of using it. And I can't use this Windows 7 as I'm running it on 1GB.

What should I do? =(
Cassie. I would help with I were already majoring in Computer Science in university but right now, I don't know anything about computer. Try to go to, idk what you have there, maybe a Staples or Office Depot or something like that.
I've sorted it now... lost some GB doing it... but it's sorted none the less. =]
In the future, there's an easier way to solve a problem like this.

Get a Mac. XD
Oh how I missed your Mac ravings. {rolleyes} =P

Do Mac's  never have problems?

No, but they certain have less problems. I've run in to about 4 or 5 major issues in the two years since I've had this machine, and I've been able to fix or resolve all of them. It's a matter of taste, really. I prefer the operating system and aesthetics of the design. Oh, and not needed anti-virus is great, too. Smile
I really want to get a Mac but I'm worried that I won't be able to use it since I've actually never been on one before. Plus, my dad's a major PC fanatic. He hates Macs.
