The entrance does not always have eggs, if the Abandoned page has more than 25 eggs in it, the Cave Entrance is "blocked off" so that there can be no egg drops.  Once the Abandoned page has less than 25 eggs in it, then there will be 3 eggs for grab on the main page.

There are hourly drops, as well.  Every hour on the hour there is a drop (again unless there are too many eggs on the abandoned page) and this is when the site is at it's busiest.  For more information, I HIGHLY Suggest going to page 3 of this thread and reading the FAQ that WitchieBunny typed up.  Read It Thoroughly.  It will save a lot of repeated questions.  You can also start from page 1 of this thread, and read forward to find other answers that might not have been on the FAQ, but were brought up later :3
