--Mason’s POV--




The last few months have been great. Jill and I have bonded closer together and Miguel and I aren’t fighting (not that we ever did). But he’s much more open than before, right after our parents died.




When the time came, I knew that I found the right girl. Jill is just so caring towards me and my brothers, and I knew we would could spend our lives together. So, one night I got on my knee.




“Jill, I would love to be with you for my entire life. Would you marry me?” I asked her nervously. As I got the box out with the ring, I thrust it up towards her, perhaps a little too close to her face. She looked shocked. This began to scare me.




But when she took the ring and started to put it on her finger, my fears were put to rest. “Of course I’ll marry you!” she said ecstatically. Quickly, I got up and we both hugged and kissed. I knew I made the right choice.




Matt came in with his robe on, with a grin on his face. He saw the whole thing and congratulated me. I acted like I took it to heart, but I don’t think he meant it.




Madison is still hairy as ever. Honestly, it’s starting to annoy me how she’s constantly hungry at night. I mean, does she really need to be all hairy and hungry? Every night I always wish that we were teens and children, before all of this family drama happened.




When she isn’t all hairy, she’s constantly working out because if she isn’t, she seems to gain weight quickly.




The two unfortunately found my little stash of money and used it to decorate their room. I mean, they don’t need all of that stuff. We have mirrors in all of the bathrooms and they never use end tables.




After they used all of the money, I began to look into my father’s assets. There had to be something there that we could use for the next month. After meeting with the lawyers, I found that he owned another house, and there was well over 100K in the savings! Since I was an adult, and since my father is dead, they all handed it over to me.

When I went to check out the house, I found a note near the bed.

Dear Jessica,

I had this house built for you. I wanted to copy your style, but the truth is, I didn’t even know your style. I hope you like it anyways.

It’s always been my dream to raise a family with you. This seemed to become real when I saw that you were pregnant with Madison and Mason. But when you turned me down, my heart broke and I thought it was the end of this house. However, I kept it anyways.

Perhaps I’ve passed on now, and you’ve found all of my fortune. If you did, please pass some of it off to our children, if they are still willing to listen to you. It is meant for all three of you, and this is what I’ve kept from my own wife and the child I had from her.

I sat down on the bed as I read this. I can’t believe Dad hid this from all of us.

The first thing I did was invite my mother over.




She ended up coming home right after work. “Hey mom!” I greeted her, and gave her a kiss on the cheek.

“Hey, Mason. What’s this all about?”




So what I did was showed her around the place. She kept asking me what it was for, but I never told her. Not until we were in the living room again.

“So, what did you think?” I asked her.

“I think this is a really beautiful house. But what are you getting at, Mason?”

“Dad left this note on the bed,” I handed the note to her from my pocket, “He gave this and 100K to you.”

I gave her a few minutes to read the note. She looked a bit shocked as well.




She sliently handed the note back, “I want you to have it all.”

“Are you serious?” I asked, my jaw dropping.

“Of course!” she laughed, “My husband and other kids have this huge house. What are we going to do with this one and 100K? You, however, are obviously engaged, you have your younger half brother, and you have your sister and whoknowswhoelse to take care of financially. Take it all, I give it to you.”

That night we all moved into the new house my father built just for us. With no more rent to pay, it seemed to lift a small burden off my shoulders. Now I just still have to deal with my sister and her odd boyfriend.
