My old professor use to tell us that we should all learn Chinese as, one day, they'll "own" America...you should have heard what the students said. I agree, Matt, the English are rather arrogant...

Hey, not all English! Wink

As a whole, I meant...not everyone is, but we're known for being rather...well, you know.

My first language is German and I speak English and Italian fluently... or at least I'm supposed to. xP
I also know some Spanish, Russian and French.
Wouldn't say that I can speak Dutch, but I do understand most of it since it seems to be a mix between German and English.

Bambi, I think you're right about German being kinda hard to learn, but from what I've seen [and heard] from German teachers, I'm not really surprised.
Most of them teach a version of the language that's over 200 years old.
I think you can compare it to the kind of English Shakespeare used to write in.  Tongue
Nobody actually talks like that anymore, so it's not only hard to speak but also damn hard to understand.

Oh, see, I didn't know that...I'll have to look into learning the "easier version." Thanks for pointing that out! Big Grin

That the English are arrogant? In language terms, yes, we very much are, but so are you, you speak our language just as we do. You can't put all the blame on the English.

But yes, it's a shame that people who use English as their first language expect everyone else to speak it, it's really unfair. Sad

No, I'm talking about the Chinese language taking over.
