I'm going to tidy up this thread as there are quite a few posts around here that do NOT help with the problem. Also, the problem has been solved.

Glad your problem got solved.
BTW for any Mac users, you hold "Command" (or Option, I forget which.) while the game is starting up (when the Sims icon is bouncing up and down.) You should get a little menu asking you how you want to play.
