They did say "It might be awkward when a sim bumps into an ex-partner while out shopping for school supplies". Maybe something like this is already planned.

It is a nice idea, for sim kids to see both parents.
I tend to play "happy valley" type of games where there is no break-ups and no strife. This might be a little harder now sims "have minds of their own".
