Breaking Dawn Chat Talk!! (Spoilers for people who haven't read the book!)
This topic is all about Breaking Dawn, by Stephenie Meyers!! So it doesn't matter where you are in the book just as long as you don't spoil it for the other readers. And please don't read this topic if you haven't even read any of the books. So just having that said what have you thought of the book so far you guys!?!?

GAH! I HATE Rosalie in book 2!
She's so obnoxious! THere are some pretty funny sections in Book two. like this one (spoiler free, i think..): ************************** Jacob walks in to find Seth's arm around Bella, and goes, What the hell? and Jacob makes a joke about Rosalie saying 'if you glue a mirror to the bottom of the pool, Rosalie might drown' or something like that. *************** I LOVE BD!! |

Re: Breaking Dawn Chat Talk!! (Spoilers for people who haven't read the book!)
It took me a while, but unfortunately I had a lot of obstacles in the way that distracted me from finishing this Book in one sitting like Deathly Hallows.
![]() I'm going to chew the horseradish and spit it out with grace, here: I honestly thought it did, in no way, live up to the first three. At all. To be honest, I was totally disappointed. What I really didn't like was, how it was just 'slap-bang-wollop' and Bella had already made her decision to be with Edward. Straight from the beginning, no trace of a doubt, she'd set up her life, and I hated that. Myself, like many others, expected the book to focus upon Bella's mental challenge to decide who it was she was really meant to be with. The obvious answer is Edward, but Jake's a dark horse, and I in no way ruled him out. To me, it was almost 50/50, the way, I assumed, Stephenie wanted it to be, despite what most fans assumed (that Edward would be the one for Bella). And to me, it didn't matter who she chose, they both as characters had admirable qualities and negative ones. Edward is the perfect boyfriend; beautiful, rich, mysterious, and incomparably kind and caring. Although, I always thought he lacked a bit of 'sunshine', and he's always been a tad too OTT and serious for my liking. Then there's Jacob; obviously not as beautiful and enticing as Edward apparently is (the film actors beg to differ in my opinion, though), but he's the sunshine Edward lacks, he's playful, he's enthusiastic, he's caring, he's really kinda bad ass and there's always something going on when Jake's about. He almost lights up the page. But he's also kind of a jerk, forcing Bella to kiss him, running off, and having a rather bad temper and being so unable to forgive easily unlike Edward. But getting back to the point, this is what I wanted; almost a battle, a book with twist and turns until we finally find who she belongs with, and we know she made the right choice. I wanted more action than ever, but I wanted Stephenie to keep her subtle, beautiful writing ways, which I think she lacked in this one. I don't know if this sounds totally ignorant, but sometimes I get bored of all the Edward and Bella love-fest scenes after a while. They've taken up 3 quarters of all the pages of all the bookd put together now. I thought it was cute when they had s3x though, hehe. {blush} Though Edward kind of ruined it on the first occasions with his glumness. I wanted BD to be all about Bella making that huge decision, yet no thought was cast onto it at all, it was all about Nessie. Not that I dislike Nessie, I think she's amazing, I can't believe she actually exists! I always thought it'd be impossible, never occurred to me that Bella would ever enter motherhood. But Nessie and her motherhood does have negatives; I felt Bella changed too much in personality for my liking. She sort of lost her sweet, shy unconfident personality and she became too... mumsy for me, I guess. If you look at the cover, I always imagined as Edward to be the main, white chess piece taking centre stage, the obvious option. That Jake was the smaller, red piece in the background. That always made me think the book was complying with my expectations, that this would be a decision for Bella. Not about a baby and the fight to keep her alive. Which, is amazing as that sounds, I would prefer to see a book all about Bella making her decision, because it flows with the other three books. BD is like a complete stand-alone book in some ways. Don't get me wrong, there are parts of this book I loved, but there were parts I hated, and I seem to be focusing on them. ![]() I found it particularly predictable, also. You could tell from a mile away, the second comprehension dawned of the pregnancy, that Jake would be imprinting on this baby. It was TOO obvious. This baby was going to look like Bella, have Bella's personality in her, yet she was going to be even more dazzling looks-wise. And yes, I realise they were all gossiping away that it was a boy, but that only made it clearer that they were going to be wrong, that it would indeed be a little lady instead. However while reading, I did ponder on a couple of scenes if maybe he'd ever imprint on Leah? Sometimes their relationship seemed to be heading that way, and to be honest I wouldn't have minded, either. The book is peppered with sugar and salt. In other words, some portions of the book are tasty and some just aren't. I was expecting Stephenie to blow me away, and I'm still a fan, just a disappointed one. JK Rowling did justice for Harry, Deathly Hallows (excluding the rather shoddy epilogue) was the ultimate reading experience, it was just beyond words for me. I cried, I laughed, whereas in BD, I did neither. JK succeeded whereas Stephenie did not. I know this, because I know a lot of people are disappointed. Too many people for it to have been a hit. I also hate how on the back of the book, it says 'Move over Harry Potter.' Um, Twilight, despite the downfall of BD, is a fantastic series that I love, but HP is one I hold close to my heart and you'll never see Twilight knock it off the top spot. Although, the Twilight movie looks freaking AMAZING! {woot} All in all, good, not breathtaking, not what I expected, predictable in unison, and a mild end. It was pretty average, so I give it, hmm, 2.7 stars out of 5. {yes} On good notes, I love Nessie, I love that everybody got their happy ending (in a way, though it would have been interesting to see a devastating ending, too), I adored the wedding and the island idea for the honeymoon, and Emmet and Alice only proved to be yet more lovable to me. And I always liked Rosalie to be honest, because I can see her pain and I get it. People need to give her a break and look into it. There were definitely so heartwarming scenes, I adored the sweet little cottage. {wub} ![]() |
