Hoping that's the washing machine finally repaired after two weeks without one ("we have to send away for the part") and trips to the launderette (after finding one that still existed - in the next town!)

Eek! That's no fun. When I was a PG student I used to go the laundrette every Sunday. It was right by my flat at the time and I would see the same regular customers every week. Besides, in winter it was a lot warmer than my flat. It was quite a social occasion and we'd often have a picnic lunch outside. Good times. Don't want to be doing that sort of thing now though. I wish your spare parts good luck

Nope, not repaired. Turn it on & the moment it's on spin cycle it makes a noise like a stone crushing machine. Engineer to come back out Saturday. Great.

It's not a hotpoint by any chance? I did a shed load of research before I bought mine and learned that hotpoint equals bad. Right now I'm listening to the howling wind and hoping no flooding occurs on the train tracks I need to use this weekend. Hmmm.

Yes, a Hotpoint Aquarius 1100. It's usual party piece was the door falling off, but this time it appears the bearings have gone (or rather the "spiders" holding the inner drum away from the outer). Looks of it, now too expensive to repair but due to the maintenance contract for it am looking at getting a new model to replace it as you can't get new spares for them any more.

Had to go out and buy myself "Seasons" to cope with the strain of it all
