I wish I had booked an earlier train (but the one I'm catching is the first cheap one that goes after rush hour). Ho hum.

I am taking my Head of IT's tablet with me for emailing and internerding purposes while I'm away, so you lot will not be rid of me.

All very apt on the day they announce the reopening of the East Coast Edinburgh line going down to Hawick. I've just sent an e-mail to three people (one of them my brother) with far more money than I will ever have that I advised five years ago to buy up a house or two in Hawick when they were going for £4000 (because if you don't have a car there, you've had it - one bus every hour and a half, daytime only!), telling them I knew for a fact they were trying to get the money from the EU to reopen the line: once that happened it would be part of the Edinburgh commuter belt & house prices would rocket.

I don't care what anyone says, nothing beats the train. Of all the ways to travel, it's still the most comfortable & civilised, & that twice the number of people use them 50 year after Beeching butchered so much of the lines because "trains are finished" shows what a corrupt idiot he truly was.

For the first time ever, I've noticed there's an attachment usage gizmo at the bottom of this post thing. Does this mean I can use it to post pictures?

   

If correct, what you should see is a picture of me frying polenta. This was during the first disaster when the stuff turned out 100 shades of derp and I tried frying the remains with some random spices and a tomato. It tasted exactly how it looked!

Do I get points for knowing how to correctly pronounce Hawick?! We used to stop off there sometimes when I lived in Scotland, if someone was driving and we needed a stretch of legs.

I love the trains. I'd be stuffed without them because I don't drive and my family and friends are so spread out.

I promised not to mention the P word but re: your frying pan - oh the horror!

When I first registered here I couldn't get that picture-attaching function to work but maybe something's been changed to allow it now?

You pronounce it as Hoy-K. It's famous for the Commons Ridings, being a famous cradle for future Rugby talent, & for being involved in one of the most notorious Far East betting scandals in British football (which they got completely away with!)
