I'm in desperate need of a cat!! I really want one lol
But I don't know how to convince my parents to get one..
My mom is afraid it'll smell and pee everywhere.. Confused

My dad is afraid that i'm not responsible enough and that if it dies it'll all be our fault Confused

We've never had a pet more active than fish lolz.. We once had Goldfish but they all died =[ then we had a turtle (Beans) =] That's pretty much about it...
Someone help me!! Big Grin

In my opinion, Dogs > Cats {whistle}

I love dogs but they take a lot more looking after. I personally don't like cats, but that's because I have a gravel drive and all my neighbours have cats, so as you can guess, I have the largest cat litter in the street {veryangry}

I realise this post doesn't help your situation... {blush}

Lol I'm sorry to hear that.. I wish all MY neighbours had cats {blush}
I may would've wanted a dog if I lived in a house but I live in a small apartment so a cat is probably more convenient in my case

Cats clean themselves.

Tell your mum you did reasearch, 'cause if you train your cats to go to the kitty litter, it won't pee everywhere.

If/When you first bring your cat into your home, every 10 minutes or so, take it to the kitty litter box, and let it sit there, until it wants to come out. Do this a couple of times, and then do it for a little while [other days] after that. Soon your cat will know where to go, and no hassle [except cleaning the litter box itself, but that's better than on the floor, right?]

Cats are VERY independant, and don't require a lot of work. Just try to get a short haired cat, unless you're up to the hassle of brushing it every single day, as most long haired cats will need.

As for feeding them, check with your vet. I never ever go off the instructions off the box, because each cat is different, despite what the boxes/bags/cans might say to do. Unless you plan to breed it, get it spayed/neutered. It's healthier for them, less likely to get certain types of cancers.

And like Rena said, the first few days, every so often TAKE it to its litter box, so that it gets an idea of where its at; especially if it's a kitten. Grown cats won't take as long to remember. Also, make sure you clean out the litter box every two-three days, it'll keep the smell down and your cat will be less likely to pee/poo anywhere else. My cats back home are fickle, after 2 days the box is full (we have 3 of them, after all) and if it's too full they'll pee/poo on the floor next to the box lol

I say cats over dogs for the next step up to pet ownership. They're more independent than dogs, since they don't require you to have to let them in and out, they don't require a lot of outside exercise and will come to you when they want attention. Unless you get a really affectionate cat, and then they like attention any time Smile

Persians are a long haired cat, and he/she is going to require a LOT of grooming. Every day. And I'm not joking. Their long hair can cause several health problems if you leave it up to the cat alone to keep itself groomed.

If you get a male, I highly suggest having him neutered. Male cats WILL SPRAY EVERYTHING, because that's how they mark their territory. And the spray isn't the same thing as urine, so it's going to smell ten times worse.

So, if you get a male, get him neutered when possible.

my male cat is neutered and he still marks his territory everywhere, and i do mean everywhere, from the front door to a bottle of water thats on a table, it's pretty horrible.

persians do need a lot of grooming and from my experience they're not always the friendlyst(sp?) of cats. plus they're expensive. every cat i get has to be either free or less than 10 â¬ Tongue
