One of things I most like seeing from other people's games is the scenery. For all its faults, the game sometimes looks quite pretty and sometimes I'm more interested in the view than the sims themselves. So here is a thread in which you should feel free to deposit any nice scenery you manage to snap in-game. All brands are welcome - TS2, 3, 4 etc. Or I'll just spam you with mine, as usual.

I'm in Monte Vista at the moment, with a house on a hill. So, sunsets are go!

Wanda sim

OK, let's see if I can make a sim of Wanda, using very minimal information! The chances of the sim looking right are pretty small, but I can at least give her the right traits and favourites.

Wanda, when you are next around, please can you take a look at these lists and make your selection for your favourite food, favourite colour and favourite music. You can only pick one from each category. I've crossed out some of the options because I don't have the expansion packs for those options.

I've stolen these lists in a terribly sloppy cut-and-paste manner from the Sims Wiki so if you want to read in more detail about the options (or at least read them in focus), click the pictures and it will take you to said Wiki.

Food choices:

Music choices:

Colour choices:

Then you need to chose five traits from anywhere on the following lists. Some traits are incompatible (for example, you cannot chose both "artistic" and "can't stand art") but just pick the five you think best describe you and we'll see how it works out.

Again, click the pics if you want to read about them in more detail, although most are reasonably self-explanatory I think.

I have been very lucky in being given the task of play-testing BluebellFlora's work in progress - a new Sims 3 world called "Huckleberry Bay". You can read a bit about it on her blog here and here. I spent a few hours yesterday afternoon roaming around the world and became quite absorbed. At the end I had a million screenshots (well, about 30), some of which I will post below so you guys can have a sneak peak of the world. I can see it becoming a firm favourite to play, as it has a nice mix of countryside and beach, plus it's not too big so there will be no lag.

The world has lots of little houses (and some bigger ones), some of which are unique builds for Huckleberry Bay. I can build a house on a 10x10 lot, just about, but some of these are even smaller. I started out in one at "1 Macintosh Drive" that I think was 6x8! Small but perfectly formed.

I spent quite a lot of time just walking all the way around the map and then driving around in a taxi. I visited every single lot and tried to do things at each of the community places. I also visited the little islands by boat and by swimming. It was fun

Brace yourself, pic spam incoming!

Roaming the streets of Huckleberry Bay (can confirm that the pavements work!)

Playing hopscotch with a horse I met on the beach.

Indulging in some mature activities befitting my age.

Having lunch and a cooking lesson at the restaurant (Polenta 101), buying some vegetables (it is also the shop) and testing all chairs on the terrace.

Driving about in water taxis. I boats.

Taking a look at the views from the tops of hills (I love that sims can effortlessly climb even the steepest slope in a matter of moments).

Swimming back to the main island.

Wandering around Huckleberry Beach and doing a bit of snorkelling. It's like taking a holiday!

Some scenic street furniture at dusk. (note to BBF - non-floating bollards!)

Caspin going into a state of amazement in the consignment shop (why?!)

Choking on hotdogs in the park (I tested all of the barbecues)

Shopping for new recipes in the book shop. I really like all the planting and landscaping.

Reading up on some recipes (Advanced Polenta Cakes) outside the Town Hall. I think my sim was glad to sit down under a tree after I'd been marching her around all over the place.

Using the computer to catch up on correspondence in the library.

Messing up the nicely raked sand in the zen garden to make a castle. Can't take me anywhere can you!

And finally, look at this prowess at martial arts! I wouldn't claim to be expert but I am pretty sure I'm better than this.

So, there you go. As you can see, I had a great time living vicariously through my pixelperson. Big thank you to BBF for letting me have a wander round.
I spent quite a lot of time just walking all the way around the map and then driving around in a taxi. I visited every single lot and tried to do things at each of the community places. I also visited the little islands by boat and by swimming. It was fun

I decided to make a bunch of pets for my game, as I otherwise just keep adopting random ones via the computer and I'd rather have a few that become familiar faces.

First up, I tried to make Ollie's pug, Milo. It was a bit tricky because the sim pugs aren't really wrinkly enough. However I think he's not too bad - I managed to give him darker patches on his face and very dark eyes like Milo's in RL.
Then I made a cat for Minty, as I think he had a cat in the past and after Milo's anal gland exploded he mentioned that he would not like to have a dog. I liked his scary black kitty avatar on the official forums so I made a black cat and gave it green eyes and a green collar so that it would fit in with the minty greenness.

I love tea

I love tea. Minty loves tea. Who else loves tea? Some people might say that many Brits are obsessed by tea. They would be right. Tea tea tea tea tea. Excuse me for a few moments while I harp on about tea.

tea

I love coffee as well but when you want a cup of tea, nothing else will suffice. I am bewildered by people who say "oh there's no tea left, I'll have coffee instead" as though those beverages are somehow interchangeable!

I also love teapots. Proper tea made in a proper pot and drunk from a proper cup. A tea cup - not a coffee cup and not a mug. No, a tea cup. Hope that is clear. The tea cup must come with a saucer, otherwise there is no sensible place to put your cake or biscuit.

And so I was amazed and delighted to see that in July the Store will be offering a tea set. This may actually be something I can buy to use up those pesky remaining simpoints. I haven't liked the last bunch of stuff in the Store but tea-related paraphernalia would be heartily welcomed by Caspin and friends.

It will be an anxious few weeks wait now until the tea set is properly revealed.

Will it be ugly (possible)?
Will it be preposterously expensive (yes)?
Will it be bugged to hell (chances are fair)?

Let us take a look at this initial image.

As the young people say: OMG.

It is...... very...... chintzy.

The tea cups are acceptable. They are a teacup-shape. I see saucers. Apparently sims are going to do that thing of sticking their little finger in the air while drinking. I may have to look away while that happens.

The teapots are not acceptable. They are coffee pot-ish. They are displeasing to my eyes. And that sugar bowl is freaking huge. I don't take sugar. The milk jug is also gigantic.

And you'd better be able to have a version without that pattern.

Also what is going on with this picture - where are the boys? I demand equal teatime rights for male sims! Also for non-floral-dress-wearing female sims. Don't make me get out my placard!

I fear that sims will have to sit on a dining chair in order to drink tea. I want to drink tea on the sofa. Yes, I know, my demands are ceaseless. How else are we going to have a cup of tea while watching GoT?

Tea pots, in which you make tea, are on the left. Coffee pots, from which you serve coffee, are on the right.

I am a young, Danish student - studying to become a journalist. I am currently writing an E-book about The Sims (To write about Sims for an exam - cool, right?! ) with three of my co-students for our exam. We want to write about every aspekt about the sims and we would love to know the different ways of playing the game and how much you love it.
I am in big need of help from you guys! We would love to talk to a huge The sims- fan! The interview would be done through Skype since we live in Denmark.
So do you spend a lot of time playing the sims, and could you be interested in helping out four young students with their exam, then please contact me on my email - katrinebaum@hotmail.com - and we can figure something out.
I really hope some of you want to help us out

Archipelago Bay: a building project!

Having had a few hours free on my afternoon off, I decided to start something I've meant to do for a little while now - fill up Archipelago Bay with buildings! Yes, I am going to single-handedly populate an island not only with people but with residences. Exciting eh?

Archipelago Bay is one of BluebellFlora's worlds and has been built without roads of any sort, so it shouldn't have routing problems or lag. She's already placed some residential and community lots but they are empty. It's tempting to plonk down a bunch of her builds, since they are so nice, but it seems a bit lazy so I'm going to make my own. I am not a talented builder, as you shall see, but it is quite relaxing to potter about and I do like decorating.

And so let's get cracking. My plan is to have a unified theme on each of the little islands, but I'll try to do something a bit different for each island. First up, this little island that needs five houses. I'll be starting with this one at 1 Coral Plaice.

This is the plot before I built anything. One side will have a view over to a tiny island with a single lot called Isolation Point. The other side will look across to another set of residences. I decided to preserve the privacy of the person who choose to live on Isolation Point, so all the houses will have their doors on the opposite side. Don't want to be too intrusive. It would be madness, however, to live somewhere with a view like this and not have balconies, so I'll have to make apologies about that to the hermit that ends up on Isolation Point.

As you can see, I excel in the art of stacking one box atop another box.

I decided to have a foundation to raise the whole thing up for a better view from the balcony. It's only a 10x15 plot so this will be a one-bedroom house for a single sim or couple. I've stuck the post box and bin in a corner at a jaunty angle, so there'll be plenty of room for a few plants at the front of the house.

Next, the fun bit - picking a colour scheme for this island. Fortunately I had just sat down with a cappuccino, so thought of doing coffee and cream colours. This may end up looking hideous but I'm going to go with it.

So we have creamy wooden siding for the walls and dark wood for foundation, railings and steps. Simple dark roof because I detest roofing and can't bear to spend too much time on it. I experimented briefly with thatch but it looked quite silly (they have the texture right but not the right roof shapes for thatch, or none that I've ever seen). I went with a lighter, mostly glass railing for around the balcony as I didn't want to block the view with clunky wooden posts.

For doors and windows I used mostly ones from Island Paradise and I changed the colours to match the woods that I'd already used. I like those shuttered windows - they look propped open for a nice breeze. They don't let in much light, so on the short sides of the house I used larger, more open windows without shutters. I may need to add a few more windows I think.

I also recoloured the bin and post box but they've end up a bit too dark. I'll lighten them up next time.

Final act for today, a few plants. BluebellFlora has already put bushes and palm trees between the lots, so I decided to stick with the green palm theme with some of those handy banana leaf shrubs, but also put in some orange bushes and flowers, partly because it goes with the sort-of-yellow exterior walls and also because then I can use those nice birds-of-paradise orange flowers.

I stuck a few potted green plants on the balcony and one next to the door.

So that's as far as I got. Next up: the interior. But that will have to wait till the weekend.

Feel free to make suggestions if any spring to mind!

Everything will be fine as long as there are no more patches. Except that it's entirely possible that there will be another patch.
