I'll soon be moving Sims Forums to a new server.

I'm consolidating all my hosting onto one single provider so I'll be moving the forums to a new host in the coming days/weeks/months (when I get round to it!).

Hopefully you won't notice any downtime or changes. The current server is based in Iceland, the new server is based in the UK so any change to speed shouldn't be too noticeable. Oh, what I will do though is introduce HTTPS, because that's what all the cools kids are doing.

I doubt anyone will read this or notice anything, but thought I'd share in case I balls it all up, and let's be honest, that's entirely possible...

Hey kids, I was looking at the TS4 section and wondered if we could tidy it up a bit? Some of the threads at the top, the ones under "important threads" don't really seem to me to be any more or less important than the ones lower down, so may I unsticky them? They were really just the first threads that appeared at SF after we started talking about TS4. If anyone thinks they should stay up top then that's fine.

My thinking was that instead we could use the "important" area once the game is released for people to post their first impressions and possibly have a thread for screenshots? We could prepare a few threads now to guide people where to post. By "people", I mean Ollie, seeing as he's the only one I know who is actually buying it so far. But that may change.

What do you think? Do I have permission to meddle?

The forum & all its posts still exists, but it is being kept offline for the time being. I will only reinstate it if there's some tangible justification for doing so (ie. vastly increased forum activity). There is no point in having a secret "regulars" section when the only people ever using it are those last regular back in the spring in 2010.

We have a never ending cycle of pre-2010 members lurking for months on end, posting once or twice a year (if at all) - unless one of the "original" people (bar Ollie) post, whereupon the cat's no longer got their tongues & the rest of us that have kept this place alive for far longer than they were ever active get treated like we're invisible.

Every few months we get someone from the "golden years" of 2008/2009 posts for the first time in whatever "hey everyone, I've missed you all so much! Let's bring the site back!" If you truly mean that, do your bit. Those only interested in speaking to the "old people" & ignoring the rest of us need to get real.

I thought I would try making a clickable signature to use on the EA forums, not that I post there much but worth a try perhaps.

Having never made such a thing before I was slightly at a loss so my first attempt was ..... hmmmmm what's the word ..... oh yeah - basic!

I took the hex numbers for the blue and green on SF and made them into a colour gradient on a signature-making website. It just looks grubby doesn't it! Also there's no logo and the font is wrong. But I did score a great personal victory in that I did manage to make it clickable (after half an hour of swearing at the screen and trying to get the pesky square brackets in the right order) so that the version on the EA forum brings the clickers straight here. Yay me!

This morning I had another go, using a plain blue background and pasting in the proper logo. It's a bit better but the resolution isn't great.

I might consult my household Head of IT on how to use Photoshop to make some further improvements.

Anyone have any ideas or tips?

Hello,

I wondered whether anyone has had problems logging in here for the last days?

I can check SF fine during the day, but if I try to log in during the afternoon/evenings I sometimes have problems. Firefox can't find the server, or some such problem.

I thought my internet connection was being naughty (as squirrels chewed through some cables previously and no doubt fancy munching the new ones too), but other websites load fine so it's not that. So then I thought maybe Firefox and SF were having a tiff, but if so then Safari, which I tried next, is also in a grump. Is it just me?

Obviously I manage to log in eventually (here I am) so it doesn't matter too much, just thought I'd mention it

Hello All,

Could someone point me in the right direction for info on posting screenshots on Sims Forums? I started the 'Tramping Round The Sims' challenge and have taken a few pics but could not manage to get them to appear when I started a new thread (which I haven't posted yet). The screenshots are jpeg files, not too big, max 600 pixels wide. I can make them smaller if that is preferred. I clicked "new attachment" at the bottom of the post, added attachments and then tried to add them into the post. When I previewed, I could see the text that I'd entered but no pictures. I looked around a bit but couldn't find rules on posting pictures, maybe I missed them though. I'd be grateful for instructions. Cheers!
