La Vida is a free and open-source clone of The Sims, and although the creator, Mike Hibbert, stopped working on La Vida for almost 4 years, he has since resumed work on La Vida nearly 2 months ago. Although La Vida has not been released yet, La Vida seems to have some potential. A video of La Vida is below.
Thanksgiving Life was supposed to be released around 2 years, but there has been no updates for almost 2 years. A video of Thanksgiving Life is below.

From the look of it, this could be Sims 4 (surprise, it's not.)
It's a quite new and fun puzzle game. The game mechanics are simple: 2 walking speeds, no jumping or falling. The only way to interact with your environment are the puzzles. Most of them are labyrinths and look more or less like this:

Yes, rectangular grids with stuff on it is all there is to it. And yet the game is surprisingly complex and challenging. Which makes it even more impressive that it is basically bug-free.

And it's great to look at!

It gets a Portal-ish look towards the end. I like Portal.

(That is, by the way, the puzzle I'm stuck with at the moment.)

And you can drive around in a boat! Boats are fun!
Far Cry back in the caveman days. I mean, COME ON!

Some of the ideas sound good. No more buying weapons, you have to craft all of your better equipment. Day & night have more importance, same as with Far Cry 2.

This should have been a new game name though. It's not Far Cry. It would be a good starting point potentially for a new franchise.
My brother told me that he is looking at getting Witcher 3, so then I started looking as well, as there's the PS4 sitting here with hardly any games to play on it so far. It sounds quite exciting! It would seem that it is quite similar to Skyrim, but with additional violence and shagging. What's not to like? Miss Tickle linked me to this review.
Here is the cinematic trailer, which is ridiculously exciting (or at least I thought so):

I am thinking of buying this game "Cities: Skylines". It's looks like SimCity should have been! Made by a company in Sweden and with emphasis on single-player building and management of cities. They seem to massively support modding for their games and there's already a couple of mods available ahead of the game's release that allow you unlimited funds and unlocks all buildings - so you can use it as a sandbox building game if you want. And I do want.

You can have quite big maps and it says it is "easy to learn but difficult to master", which sounds perfect as you could just muck about building stuff and watching things progress, or you could make it a real challenge and much more involved. You can put different districts into your big map and they can operate under their own local laws.

LGR is playing a copy at the moment (presumably they released some for game reviewers to try out, although there's no beta or demo for general use) so I'm looking forward to his upcoming review, but from looking at the website and trailers I'm already pretty sure I'll get it.
I was so disappointed with the recent SimCity, but this could be a great alternative!

My only fear is that I will become too engrossed and lose whole days of my life to sorting out crime rates or sewage treatment.

I am baffled by EA's success in the Sports section. Maybe there's just a lack of competition in the sports games arena, or people just buying annual updates out of habit.
The "Papers, Please" game sounds completely nuts!

I can honestly admit that I was worried about Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us, as I was one of the few that loathed Uncharted 3, but I can gladly say that most of my worries about The Last of Us have disappeared since inserting it in to my Playstation 3.
A simplistic menu that tells it’s own tale which is up for discussion is the first thing you see. To me the menu screen represents hope, a window looking to a bright future which many may dream of in the world of The Last of Us, but know is unlikely to arrive.

Almost immediately you are thrown in to an emotional journey set in a post-apocalyptic America (and world), where everyone’s main goal is to survive. Although it may seem to take on a few cliches at first, the story takes on very few of them. The Last of Us’ story revolves around a brutal survivor, Joel (played by Troy Baker) who attempts to smuggle a young girl born in to this world of madness, Ellie (played by Ashley Johnson), across America to a group known as the “Fireflies”. As the game progresses, so does Ellie and Joel’s relationship, from hardly being able to stand each other, to developing in to a sort of Father-Daughter type relationship, along with this, you also grow a connection with the characters- something that I find very important in games. While travelling throughout America you shall come across the “Infected”. The Infected are humans that (as the name suggests) have been infected by Cordyceps, which just so happens to be based on a real virus that infect insects. There are four main types/stages of infected including; Runners, Stalkers, Clickers and Bloaters. You will also come across other survivors, and they are what you should be afraid of. The Last of Us does have a problem, pretty much everyone you come across is unfriendly, yes there are a few characters that are friendly, but they’re apart of the story, I just thought that it would be nice to just be able to walk freely through a group, without being shot at.
It took me approximately 15 hours and 59 minutes to complete the story for The Last of Us, meaning it only just manages to scrape by my minimum amount of play-time for a linear experience (15 hours, at least 25 hours for open-world games). It is difficult to delve in to the story without spoiling it as there are many twists and turns, but one thing is for sure and that is, that it’s one epic tale.

There isn’t much to be said about the gameplay in The Last of Us. It is what it is, it certainly isn’t perfect, but it gets the job done. When you come across an enemy, you’ll have two options, either going in stealthy or bursting in loud. Usually you’ll be forced to go with the latter, and this system tends to be standard in most modern games, so it’s not really anything special. One thing I do like is that when you have to craft something in the game, it takes real time, and that can make for some really intense situations.
Scavenging for items is a big part of the game. Even though finding items really isn’t too rare, I still like to go around every little area and collect as much as I can. The problem with this is that I usually find myself having to crouch while doing so because I’m so worried that there might be another enemy around the corner, so it can be quite slow and grueling. Generally the gameplay can feel a little repetitive at times, but only barely. The AI is also quite bad at times. Although it was Naughty Dog’s decision, the enemy AI only recognize you, not Ellie or any other friendly AI you have with you. Ellie may as well just stand in front of an enemy and the enemy will just go about it’s usual business. I’m sure if Naughty Dog had a little more time, they would’ve had the ability to improve the AI, but they were rushing considering the game had already suffered from one delay.

The graphics in The Last of Us are stunning. Naughty Dog have utilised the Playstation 3 to it’s fullest to show off a post-apocalyptic America in the best way possible. Anybody who plays The Last of Us will crave and love every moment in the bright sunshine and fear every moment in the interior darkness. I hate to say it but no matter how stunning the visuals look, the settings can feel a little repetitive at times. Nonetheless it is great to see how nature reclaims it’s land in The Last of Us.

Although The Last of Us contains multiplayer, it isn’t the focus, which is great. The multiplayer hasn’t done much of anything new. It’s just player vs player in intense situations. People have suggested that the multiplayer is amazing and is what makes the game, but not to me.

Overall, The Last of Us is probably the most brutally violent game I have ever played. Naughty Dog have done a fantastic job with this, although I wouldn’t call it a 10/10 masterpiece, it is up there as one of the greatest games I have ever played and won’t be forgotten anytime soon. I find it unfortunate that it is a Playstation 3 exclusive, meaning that a lot of gamer’s will miss out on The Last of Us. I prefer not to give games a score, as I’d like people to actually read my review’s and think about what information I have given them from my experience with them and finally decide whether or not this is a game for them, so instead I’m just going to answer yes or no, as to whether or not I’d suggest it. Do I suggest The Last of Us? Yes, to anybody and everybody with a PS3, I suggest that you shouldn’t miss out on one of the final and great games of this generation.

Far Cry 3 - not as good as the hype I fear

I got a chance to have a go at this today (granted I watched more than played, but that helps) & I'll be honest, I wasn't impressed hugely. One to wait for going budget rather than one for Santa's stocking, if at all.

The scenery is stunning, as with the previous two versions of the game. But there's a lot in this game that lets it down.

First up, you have to be logged online to play it: another computer game manufacturer wanting to keep track of every detail of you playing your games so you're giving them consumer feedback whether you like it or not - which I object to in principle.

Mind you, considering the amount of junk in this game people will be avoiding like the plague, I can see their point.

A lot of the game concerns side missions to get money to get the decent gear to stand any hope of survival. Some are fair enough, like killing some bad guy but only with a knife or killing certain animals required by the villagers; but others are offensive - like delivery driving missions that are more like some Mario Cart game's powerups where you have to drive over a succession of flared checkpoints to win the reward. There's also some "way of the warrior" crap where you have to keep shooting wave upon wave of enemies with a particular gun until they kill you or time's up. It totally jars with the game's plot. There's also occasional "talk to" missions that are carbon copies of ones from Skyrim!

My biggest moan is the fiddly control system. Fiddly keyboard that you cannot map yourself (every other 1st player shooter allows the changing of the keys, but not Far Cry 3) & a fiddly crafting system & buying/selling system that isn't very user intuitive & contains a lot of redundant stuff.

Far Cry 3 has a crafting system that looks suspiciously like a last minute add-on to match that of Skyrim. It is fiddly to use, & if you miss the onscreen prompt telling you that you are now allowed to make something now you have the raw materials you will only discover it by accident.

Worst of all, most of the animals that you have to kill to make certain items swiftly become redundant to the game - you cannot craft items from animal parts to sell, only to make items for yourself, after which all you can do is sell the skins. After about 2 hours of playing the game, the tigers, leopards, rabid dogs that hunt in packs, deer, komodo dragons, tapers, those ostrich things with an attitude, pigs, goats & buffalo were as far as I could see redundant, except to slaughter wholesale for cash or screw up your silent sneaking past some pirates by deciding to attack you.

There's even a mixing potions part of sorts, mixing green, blue, crimson or white leaves to make different injectables to either regenerate health, improve your hunting abilities temporarily, & so on. After the first hour, I concluded it's more trouble that it is worth, & you are best sticking only to green leaves for health & forgetting about the rest except to sell.

The real game changer is getting silenced weapons - once you have those, you stand a chance. Before that, the game is a never ending series of shooting bad guys & finding yourself having to run away from a truck load of well tooled up reinforcements (including berzerker type guys with machetes & molotovs!) before you get to loot any of them.

Oh yes, & only grenades and RPGs can kill tigers and leopards. Trying shooting one with any rifle from any distance & it will have legged it or killed you long before. Headshots make no difference. Buffalo meanwhile with their hard as s**t hides only need a few rounds in the head to down them.

The cliched "intellectual psycho" main bad guy complete with Travis from "Taxi Driver" mohican & Mr White/Patrick Bateman poseurisms badly lets the game down. I'm convinced if any of the other characters told him "you act the way you do not because of drugs or some deep trauma in your past, but because the girls all say you have a tiny one", he'd break down & cry. He's not frightening or threatening. Just
annoying.

I could sum up the faults of this game with one part in particular, helping the retaking of pirate bases by the rebels. Or rather you attack them & they come in later (except in the first occasion). If the base is in a jungle area, you can take the base without firing a shot. Go somewhere you can see into it from not too far away but they cannot see you. Look for dogs, leopards or tigers to come strolling along nearby.

Start throwing rocks in an arc that will make the predators investigate & that takes them near to the base. Once they get a whiff of the pirates, they'll charge straight in, & any tiger or leopard will easily kill three of the pirates before being shot dead due to the ridiculous strength attributed to them. Twice I saw a tiger waste an entire base single handed, whereupon the natives flag goes up, the tiger & any other wild animal in the base vanish by magic, & your native buddies arrive to congratulate you on taking back a base that the pirates can never attempt to retake (another moan: it isn't truly a dynamic campaign as claimed - like Skyrim, you are ticking off boxes. Are computer game manufacturers unable to create a game where the bad guys take some of their lost bases back if you dither for too long doing other parts of the game?)

Don't get me wrong, it appears to be a fun enough game, but I've a feeling many will buy this at Christmas & be well bored of it before the new year bells. For the same price its being sold for, I think you'd be better off getting Skyrim & Dawnguard.

PS. Just remembered: the constant nag boxes popping up telling you what your next mission is. That's what I object to most of all. Like the crafting & everything else, so much of this "free open world" involves the game holding your hand & telling you where you should be going/what you should be doing next. No - free world means I decide, not having "nag" boxes popping up or repeat phone calls that I took earlier.

Having never played any of the previous games as I've an aversion to all that Dungeons & Dragons crap, I found myself being swayed by the videos on You Tube for it that seemed to back up the countless
reviewers saying even if you've hated this sort of game before you will be won over by it.

But the guys in GAME promised that I could return it with my money back if I thought it sucked, which I can't remember them doing EVER with a PC game before, they were that confident. So, I got it - and was easily won over in the first hour. It's a bargain for the price they charged for an astonishing piece of work.

How did they manage to cram so much detail into a game? It would take you years to play through all the different combinations of race, skills, regions, weapons, spells and so on the game has to offer.

The choices are bewildering, but wonderful - something for absolutely everyone in the game. Although there's a main quest, there's hundreds of side quests (along with side quests to the side quests!) and the game leaves it up to you what you want to do.

You can go to one city & be a criminal, in another holding up the law eliminating local bandits. Go to one place on an mission, before you know it you've got yourself mixed up in another three at the same time. Going there and back again are countless plants, objects and creatures all of which can be used in some shape or form(assuming the creatures don't kill you first).

It's the scenery that makes it that bit special, with realistic weather effects on top.

Here's some screenshots from my game so far just to let you all see how mouthwatering it is.
