Are you sure?  Im almost positive it ws the mom.    And wasnt his dad a mudblood (sorry for foul language)  so he wasnt proud of that name?

Yeahhh. It's his dad. People usually take up their fathers last name. Never their mothers. His dad was a muggle. Hence the 'half blood' Brad

I don't know if it was abusive as far as physical wise. But they did yell at one another.
